When it comes to choosing an auto shop, you want to work with mechanics you can trust. One of the best ways to ensure you’ve found quality auto mechanics is to look for shops with technicians that are ASE-certified. At Pearson Auto, our auto mechanics all have their ASE certifications — here’s what that really means, and why you should care.
What is ASE Certification?
ASE is the acronym for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Founded in 1972, ASE is a nonprofit organization that tests and certifies auto mechanics across the U.S. The goal of ASE is to improve the quality of vehicle repair by ensuring mechanics can perform their jobs to the highest standards.
How Do Mechanics Become ASE-Certified?
To become ASE-certified, auto mechanics must have either two years of on-the-job training or one year of on-the-job training plus a two-year degree in automotive repair. Then, they take one or more tests on auto repair or a sub-specialty — ASE offers 52 tests covering topics like truck equipment, school buses, collision repair, and more, in addition to traditional auto repair. Auto mechanics must renew their ASE certifications every five years to stay up to date on automotive technology.
Why Should You Choose Auto Mechanics with ASE Certifications?
When you choose a shop with ASE-certified auto mechanics, you’re choosing professionals who have proven their expertise and dedication to their craft. ASE certification is a mark of quality and reliability, giving you peace of mind that your vehicle is in good hands. Plus, you’ll know your mechanics are on top of the latest techniques and technology. As cars become more complex, this expertise is more critical than ever.
