Oil changes are an integral part of maintaining your vehicle. But what is the oil change process actually like? Here is a simple breakdown of how we change your car’s oil, step by step.
1. Raise the Vehicle
First, the car has to be lifted off the ground so that we can work under it. We have to remove the undertray to access the drain plug and get the whole process going.
2. Remove the Drain Plug and Drain the Old Oil
Let’s get the old oil out of there! We place a receptacle under the car to collect the oil, then we remove the drain plug and let it flow for as long as it takes to empty out.
3. Change the Oil Filter and Replace the Drain Plug
We remove the old oil filter, replace it, and put the drain plug back in place, being careful not to overtighten.
4. Fill the Engine with Oil
Time for new oil! We replace the undertray and lower the car and open the hood. After removing the oil cap, we use a funnel to fill the engine with the proper amount of oil.
5. Check the Oil Levels
Finally, we double check the oil levels with a dipstick to ensure everything is just right.
